677 Pigs have been culled on a farm in Taiwan after Foot & Mouth disease was confirmed amongst the livestock. The farm houses 6,000 pigs, but due to disinfection and vaccination, authorities hope that these pigs will not have to be culled. A further 70 pigs were culled elsewhere in Taiwan in an unrelated outbreak. Despite claims within Taiwan that the outbreak has been well contained, Singapore has taken the action to ban imports from Taiwan.
In Shanghai 440 cows have been slaughtered after a an outbreak was confirmed at a local farm. The farm is believed to be the only source of outbreak in the region, and it has been disinfected and quarantined. At this point authorities believe the disease has been contained.
