519 birds have died of bird flu in China’s western province of Xinjiang that boarders with Afghanistan and Pakistan, 13,000 birds have been culled but no human infections have been reported. The outbreak comes hot on the heels of 8 human cases this year in China, but is the first outbreak in birds. Previously questions had been raised over China’s reporting system due to the number of human cases, without corresponding bird cases.
